Seattle to Cayucos

Plan: Bicycle from Seattle, Washington to Cayucos, California.
Equipment: Two Cannondale T-900 bicycles, two BOB trailers, two Yaesu VX5R amateur radios (Tad KA6YRJ and Dan KF6WNY), gear, and one PocketMail.
Timeframe: July 9, 1999 to August ?, 1999
Logs: Amtrak     Washington     Oregon     Northern California     Southern California

Dan and Tad caught the train in Santa Barbara, California on July 9, 1999 at about 12:15pm and arrived in Seattle, Washington around 8pm on July 10, 1999. (Transportation by train was chosen because you could see some scenery on the way up, there was no extra charge to carry the bicycles, and an Amtrak carry on is 3 feet by 3 feet by 3 feet.) The following log documents the trip and includes excerpts from their PocketMail email messages.

We have had an interesting trip thus far, we failed sending the email from SLO. we have talked to some interesting people and some... not so much. We met a neat older couple on their way to visit their daughter in Seattle. They were from PA, he was into woodworking and the Sons of the Revolution. We ate dinner with them on an overpass in S. San Jose :)

Day two was a little more profitable as far as meeting people we have spent the entire day in the Observation car. Last night we both slept pretty well thanks to Tad's sleeping pills. I started out talking to "hippy chick" she was driving her car from Seattle to Santa Barbara. She was a little odd but OK to talk to for a short while. Tad talked to a waitress from Santa Barbara that went to Dos Pueblos High School, she was one of the best to talk to. We also talked to a lady from Needles for awhile and a mother/ daughter (barbie) from Redding. I should sign off now as I am getting close to 4000 characters.

till later,
Dan
